sutter's work: smoke and mirrors

somebody told me this summer that brandon prust was coming back and that it was already a done deal. i can't even remember who it was but it was like a cab driver or something.... he said "you'll see this summer" and he was RIGHT.... which makes me wonder if the ACTUAL jokinen trade was for lombardi/vandermeer/1st rounder, but sutter refused to give up a defenseman heading into the playoffs (cause we were so short). i think i speak for all of us when i say that this is good news all-around, to be sure.

also ? leopold for the rights to jaybouw could not make me happier. for serious.... my gut tells me that daz will get'er done, and with vandy's salary/contract off the books, it'll be interesting to see how much he has to spend.... it will probably take a full mulligan on the "nobody makes more than the captain" statement, though, and i'm not convinced the current egos on our blueline will handle a 7 million dollar guy...

my boy strombo woke me up with the leopold-for-jaybouw news to which i responded that the flames would certainly need to drop some salary in order to sign him. strombo (cheeky bastard) texted : "or you could just dress 15 players a night ;)".....

JBo's rights for Leo's rights = Jack s*%t.

I (along with everyone else) thought it was ridiculous when the panthers begged for a third rounder for the right to whisper sweet nothings in JBo's ear. When no one fell for that stroke of desperation the panthers tried to save face with the pitiful UFA for UFA trade.

Well done Sutter. You have stirred interest in Flames fans for a few days and allowed them to dream of their full team + JBo.

Dream on.

jaybouw could happen.

infact, it's probably more likely than leo (who i detest) signing with the panthers.... we just need to shed some salary (started this morning by trading vandy for prust) and bob's your uncle !
;)

btw:
"well done sutter" is now considered an incomplete sentence. you must specify which of the five flames sutters (darryl, brent, duane, ron, brett) you're referring to... infact, the last name "sutter" is redundant in these parts.... "well done darryl" is preferrable in and around the pengrowth sutterdome.

Speaking of dreams (and nightmares):

How many goals did Luongo allow in game 6? It might be easier to swallow if you think of it in terms of touchdowns.

Speak of the devil, I hear that the cheeky bastard is asking for $8M per year. Now that's a hometown discount!

Now to address Jay Bouwmeester rumors:

I don't think he will sign in the next three days with Calgary. Free agency will be too tempting. He always has the option, once he has considered other teams' offers and if he decides Calgary is his place, to accept Sutter's pre-July 1 offer. And Sutter would be foolish not to keep such an offer tabled post-July 1.

I do think that amongst the Western Canada teams, he is most likely to sign with Calgary. This talk of his house-building suggests that Alberta is his ultimate destination. And a recent Edmonton Journal article suggests that Edmonton would not be a good fit. Ergo, Calgary is his defacto WC destination.

wow. RO... i never pegged you as a months-later type gloater...;)

i agree that jaybouw won't probably happen in the next days... but (god willing) pardy will, and bertuzzi won't, and we'll know what the hell we're dealing with cap-wise.

So I would love to see JayBo signed. I think he would be a great fit for our new 'defensive minded team' and the perfect way to do this... Shipping Jokinen off to some place far far away from here.

Darryl isn't done. It scares me to think what else he might be planning..

you and me both, sister.... it's been 168 days since i got my gio jersey, so i'm expecting him to get shipped off any second now....

;)

jokinen won't be leavin town, i'm afraid. there is zero chance that darryl will give him up now; it would be like admitting fault.....

On the contrary.

The Flames have made references exceedingly simple with their one-name-fits-all solution. "Sutter can't run a power play" "Sutter will never figure the cap out" or the classic "what the hell does Sutter even do?". It takes all guesswork out of a late night rant.

Thanks nepotism.
