a love letter to the edmonton oilers

dear capital greasers:

we've been bitter rivals for the longest time, but thanks for putting that aside tonight while facing the one team we agree on hating SO much more.... all of your players really stepped it up and i'm not entirely sure why; whether you're battling for a playoff spot, trying to keep your coach, or just hoping to get more congratulatory questions directed at kevin lowe by marc crawford on HNIC after hours.

i don't think i've ever cheered for an edmonton goal but when sam gagner notched the winning tally, i sure celebrated out loud. tonight was also the first time i've watched hemsky chase down a puck and hoped that he'd get there first (and tuck it in the empty net).

oh, and i gotta say: you looked pretty sharp in your vintage orange-and-blues.

i promise to cheer for every goal you score, and every game you win in the next five days, and then the hiatus is back off again (beastie boys style) when it comes to hockey... as of next friday, i will be really rooting for your golf swing, though.

promise.

sincerely,
WI

Vancouver did deserve to win tonight. They outplayed the Oilers significantly.

However, I'm not complaining, given that Vancouver has won something like 3 games in March *alone* in which they were significantly outplayed.

Having cheered for the Oilers also, I feel quite dirty tonight.

Also, did you notice how there was both foot-in-crease and incidental contact on the Canucks' third goal? Yes, I am still bitter about Furlatt's no-goal call.

i actually DID notice, and i actually DID think about it. i'm pretty sure furlatt has taken the reigns from mcgeough/fraser as the zebra nemesis to the calgary flames.

I hope you won't mind so much when we return the favour to them by beating your team twice to finish the season.

Roloson will have to stand on his head, as he did tonight. And Kipper will have to stink.

It's possible. Wouldn't bet money on it though.

I don't recall Kipper being that bad when we beat the Flames in a home-and-home back in the first quarter of the season.

I just remember that we were better.

i was disappointed that the oilers could not do the same against the sharks. but yeah, thanks for last night...you were great.

Colorado is UP 2-0 at the end of the second against Vancouver! You had better keep the perfumed paper and pink pens handy, wi!

(My apologies to everyone if I totally jinx the avalanche by writing this.)

After Colorado's 4-1 win against the Canucks tonight, can we expect a love letter to the Avalanche? Somehow I don't think it would mean so much!! LOL! Nice post!!

After Colorado won tonight, I was going to come on here and say something like "oh well Vancouver was the better team but got unlucky, regression to the mean, I'll take it", etc. etc., but... it's even more satisfying to watch a fully healthy team getting outplayed by what was basically the amalgamation of the top half of an AHL team and the bottom half of an NHL team.

'Bout time the Canucks stumbled a bit.

I love it that was the best love letter ever you mit what to send Colorado one to.
I think the reson they won was because it takes the "young guns" 76 games to warumup Alex how
