so long, coach K !

i remember when mike keenan was hired, just shy of two years ago. i was in bed in toronto (being lazy ? maybe....) and i was shocked by it all....

i have to say, i was open to the idea at first ---i thought it would be a good antidote to the playfair era, and i quite liked the thought of a more structured, disciplined group.... my first impressions were wishy-washy, and i have to admit i felt that way about keenan through his tenure. just before xmastime, i was ready to nominate him for a jack adams. midway through the playoff series with chicago, i was begging for today's result.

but let's be honest: keenan is taking the fall for sutter's mis-steps. while the coach definitely overplayed his #1 goaltender (kipps), his veteran pony (bertuzzi), and his favorite versatile defenseman (dion), we should not sweep sutter's mistakes under the proverbial rug. the coach will pay the price for the GM's errors. hopefully this isn't forgotten moving forward....

anyhow.... about an hour before my phone started buzzing with the news of the keenan sacking, i took this photo in the viking, alberta area:

if anyone knows which sutter household this is, feel free to let me know.... the brand under the name seems to be DS, so i'd guess darryl or duane.... my boss and i happened across it totally by fluke, getting lost on our way to wainwright.... he insisted we pull over and take a photo (i talked him out of making me knock on the door to insist on some answers)... ;)

i photoshopped out the address. i thought that would be considerate.

i was totally disgusted by the grammatically incorrect use of the apostrophe.... my boss talked about stealing it and then treating it like the urban myth gnome; taking photos of the sutter apostrophe in front of all 30 rinks in the league and sending them in postcard form back to the viking area sutter ranch....

that's kindof my dream.
feel free to sponsor me....

The herald article on regehr makes it seem as of he's taking potshots at keenan... But I think he's actually mad at bertuzzi, the mysterious plyaer who didn't "buy in to the system"

walkinvisible said...

why would you think it was bertuzzi ? i could suggest at least three other players that may not have bought into the system: phaneuf, jokinen & regehr himself (from his comments in that article)....

the REAL question is:

how do we rip the C off of jarome's jersey, and sew it onto #28 ? no offense to iggy but i think regehr would be a far superior captain...
(it'll never happen, btw).

and also ? WHY THE HELL IS PLAYFAIR DEVISING THE SYSTEM ??!?! is that not a head coach's job ? was keenan just a figurehead when it's been playfair yelling out the buzzwords in the lockerroom all along ??!??

today, i hate darryl sutter.

Damn walkinvisible is fiiine

thanks, duncan.
no need to post as "anonymous."

Much as I like that photo, a) anon is not me, and b) The thing I admire most about this entry is the admonition of the improperly used apostrophe.

I'm in information overload right now, after this firing, this Regehr interview ... I'm waiting till the press conference on Tuesday, then I'm going to come out guns blazing. Just FYI.

of course i knew it wasn't you, duncan. it was RO... he's the only one who checks this blog (besides AWM and kent, who both know what i look like anyways).
;)

i'm glad you'll be posting cause i'm gonna be ignoring.

Haha!

Actually it took me a few minutes before I realized that was you.

I'm not ANON...

...but damn walkinvisible is fiiine

(that is not meant to be creepy at all btw - only funny)

walkinvisible said...

RO, i didn't actually think it was you either. i was just kidding in the way that comedians who get heckled always go "mom ? is that you ?"

creepy or not, reading that i'm "fiiiine" is better than a kick in the teeth.

Who owns the ranch? D. Sutter, which makes it...wait for it...the Sutter's ranch.

duncan said...

As long as D. Sutter likes to refer to himself in the third person. Which, I acknowledge, is possible. But I'd still wager he's just not so good at the grammar.

Come on, I check in too! It could be me with the compliment!

It's not, but it could be...

walkinvisible said...

don't worry, maimster... you're golden. so's ngthagg who turns up now and then. seriously, i love all of you !!!

anon (you crafty little devil):
if there was only one guy (ie: d.sutter) living there, then yes. sutter's. yep. uh hunh. agreed. unfortunately, i'm GUESSING that there is more than one sutter there (d, his wife, his kids) and therefore it should be sutters'...

capiche ?

Hugh Jass said...

I think the sign is grammatically correct, but just bad english. Most people with that sign would have "The Sutters", as in, they live there. This sign is saying it belongs to the Sutter family, therefore "The Sutter's" is technically correct, but probably by mistake.

walkinvisible said...

i don't like the apostrophe at all.

i would have been fine with THE SUTTERS.

For the record, I check in as well...

I'm not ANON, but almost...

The Apostrophe is hilarious, but one question remains.... Why were you going to Wainwright and how did you get lost?

walkinvisible said...

dan:
that information is strictly classified. and we weren't LOST, we just ended up "taking a shortcut."
;)

thanks for tunin' in.
