mark giordano scores the most wickedest goal all by himself at 5:50 of the first period. he ends the night with the goal and an assist, +1, 4 shots, 1 giveaway, 1 takeaway, 3 blocked shots and 2 attempts blocked.
in the fifteen-or-so seconds that followed gio's inaugural goal, i got the following texts:
"is today like christmas for you ?"
"wow, that was a sick move. atta boy gio"
"GIO!!!!!!!!!!!"
"go gio !"
so amazing.
the first period, the flames looked unstoppable. really awesome forecheck and strong, hard passing. the second was a letdown and they held on for a win in the third. i admit i didn't pay too close attention to the game (i was out at the bar) but it was nice to see the team start the year out right. i expected a shootout loss....
in other flames news, it seems that rhett warrener will be out looking for future allstars who can lay their sticks on the ice in attempt to stop a cross-crease pass.... he joins the flames scouting staff (cause we need more scouts) and will "work closely" with duane and ron sutter in "identifying professional talent as well as assisting with the development process of prospects currently in the organization." which is basically press-releasespeak for "rhettro's bowl-a-rama will continue into the forseeable future."

Gio played like a man possessed last night, that quick move at the blue line, and the shot just inside the post past Luongo was a thing of beauty. Imagined you jumping up and down like a crazy person after that one.
yep.
bang on.
i was at the bar during a sortof wrap/sendoff party and probably told a dozen people how excited i was about the flames being up a goal, and that MY BOY GIO scored it !!!!
ps: nobody gave a shit.
;)
I Gotta admit that even in the midst of a ballbuster lighting setup on a rainy night shoot, I couldn't help but smile when I heard that it was Gio who scored the opening goal. Here's to a great season.
it makes me smile to think that my favorite guy getting one past your goalie on a powerplay makes YOU smile....
;)
good luck this year, my friend, and by "good luck" of course i mean "here's to hoping that when your team meets my team, epic battles ensue, with the flames coming out consistantly victorious..."
Glad I picked him up in my pool.
Only 2% taken across the yahoo world. I expect that number to go up.
dustin:
he was 1% when i picked him up in MY pool (14th round) last sunday.... ;)
i also took the poor fool last year, which didn't really turn out so awesome.
just sayin'.
