cruel glorious, indeed.... ;)

so i didn't do a whole lot today and while i've got a few things i'd like to write about regarding the step towards a resurgence of vintage iggy, the implications on jokinen's play, the chicago penalty trouble that led to a canucks win, or the fact that the NHL doesn't MAKE the flames' retro-throwback jersey in women's sizes, today i thought i would simply share a wicked quote.

please bear in mind that if shep had his own blog, then maybe i wouldn't need to use an online swedish-to-english translator to decode what freddie sjöström had to say about last night, over on his webpage.... and even though i know that the words aren't exactly right, i think the essence of the passage comes through (and, to be fair, the mis-translated version makes for lexicon hilarity)...

"Two straight profits now, that feel we are on correct road now…

We have played mycke better as teams but we have still a part gadgets to improve…

yesterday succeeded I to do my first objectives in flames the sweater, COMFORTABLE! It became a classic GP-pucks objectives, cruel glorious to see the puck to slide in…

Today, we are free and easy so it become that softa on the sofa and small home to the pals and families…"

i LOVE.
have a good thursday, everyone.

Canucks turnaround appeared to be on the back of a completely fucked up penalty call (the high stick). CP may be awful in general but its collective investigative journalism skills vis-a-vis Canucks is second to none:

Seems conclusive whose stick that was.

Sick of those embellishing and diving bastards.

Another translation from CP:

Two straight win now, I feel like we are on track now ...

We have played better as a team ornament but we still have some things to improve ...

Yesterday I managed to make my first goal in flames shirt, nice! It became a classic GP-puck case, cruel wonderful to see the puck slide into ...

We don't play today so it will be a chill out on the couch and call home to friends and family day...

re: freddie's note --
i realize there were better translations (it was crystal clear to me that the opening line described two straight wins, not two straight profits) but there was something truly beautiful, to me, about the version i posted.

perhaps shep can offer some insight on the ACTUAL meaning of the second sentence, as well as what GP-puck means...

re: the dirty 'nucks --
proof positive why i'm SO glad bertuzzi ain't on my team: guys like that (bert/byfuglien) will get penalized no matter what. in truth, my roommate and i both wanted a replay of that highstick, but they never showed it during the live feed....

it's rad that bieksa can make himself bleed, though. let's be honest: that's SKILL.

Why are you bothering to discuss a Canuck/Blackhawk game? What do you care?

I understand you're all knowledgeable hockey fans that love to discuss the minutiae of our beloved game, but the Canucks posts seem strangely out of context. And yes, I'm paying attention.

What's the fascination? Are we your Toronto? Why do you bother?

I guess my point is, if the roles were reversed. If the Canucks were a Stanley Cup Champion and the Flames were a long standing pathetic under-achiever, I can't imagine Canucks fans giving two squirts what the flamers did on a nightly basis.

On The Canucks tip (sorry, I'm watchin' Snoop dog on the Strombo show) I'm on the fence. As you may or may not know I'm a psychotic Ohlund fan so this season starts out dissapointing in my book. It's hard not to point to his absence after every goal.

Our goaltender is running hot and cold and I hate to say it but I would accept consistency over flashes of brilliance at this point.

The D is undermanned at the moment but that was inevitable if not predictable. Soft and slow anyone?

The moneyball approach personifies the Johnny forwards. Projects are the name of the game, bringing mixed results. Samuelsson seems like the real deal, Kessler continues his rise to second line center status and Rypien... don't lie, you wish he was a bic.

BUT.

Bernier, Raymond, Wellwood, Hordichuck, Grabner and Johnson? Would you want them on your team?

There could be an upside to these boys. Who knows, they could come together in an historic run, defying the odds, culminating in Vancouver's first Stanley Cup victory in 85 years. Buuuut probably not.

Take the high road flamin' C. It'll look good on you.
